Good evening Sackville Minor Hockey Rec Families.

We are very excited for the coming hockey season and hope you are as well!  I would like to extend a warm welcome back and pass along a few important updates. 

Over the last several months, we have worked really hard to make the rec program one that represents the wishes of all of our members. Having said that, this was and is no easy task!  We listened to you, implemented some tweaks/adjustments and believe we have come up with a program with everyone's wants and needs in mind.  The first item that we committed to improving was the rec evaluation time. We are proud to announce that all Flyers will be hitting the ice at the same time this year!  That means that we will be conducting our rec evaluations alongside the competitive tryouts. The players who have signed up for rec will only be in groups with other rec players and will then be joined by those released to rec at the conclusion of the tryouts. All rec evals and competitive tryouts will finish together and initial player placements to teams will happen simultaneously!

There will be a short balancing period to make sure all our rec teams are as evenly matched as possible, where some player movement can happen. Once we are set, we get going with the season! We wish all of the players in the tryout process the best of luck. Please know that for those players who come back to us, we are extremely glad to have you, and we remain focused on providing you with the opportunity to grow and improve your skills at the rec level. We have worked with our development team to come up with a new hybrid development model that will continue to provide individual and team development for all of our players and coaches.  

The next important step in this process begins this weekend with the pick up of your player evaluation jerseys. You will keep these jerseys for the duration of the evaluations and hand them in at the end.

•      U11 Rec    Sunday    Sept 22,   2:00-3:30 pm Arena Mezz 
•      U13 Rec    Saturday Sept 21,   4:00-5:30 pm  Arena Mezz
•      U15 Rec    Saturday Sept 21,    4:00-5:30 pm  Arena Mezz
•      U18 Rec    Saturday Sept 21,    4:00-5:30 pm  Arena Mezz
•      U23 Rec   TBA

The evaluations themselves are set to begin On SATURDAY SEPT 28th at both the Sackville Arena and the Sackville Sports Stadium. Please stay tuned for the exact dates and times of all sessions and player groupings. These will be posted in advance to the Sackville minor Hockey website over the coming days. Under 13AAA Tryout Update – Sept 19

Following tonight’s scrimmages the Team Selection Committee as outlined in the new Tryout Manual will meet to determine the list of players who will move on to Phase 2 of the Under 13AAA tryout process.

This list will not be posted before 5pm on Friday, September 20.

Players who are on this list are expected to be at the Sackville Arena for a scrimmage at 12 noon on Saturday, September 21.

Players who are not on list will be added to the Under 13 tryout list and information about that tryout process will be posted early next
week.

U9, U13, U15, and U18 jersey pick up will be held on Saturday, followed by U11 on Sunday.

Saturday, September 21st - 4:00-5:30pm @ Sackville Arena Mezzanine

U23 division will not have Evaluations for the upcoming 2024/25 season.

In keeping with the 2024 SMHA Competitive Tryout Policy, requests for a specific jersey number cannot be accommodated. 

If a player's assigned Tryout Jersey is not returned at the end of the Competitive Tryout Process, there will be a $50 Jersey Replacement Fee added to the player's HCR account. 

Players released from the Competitive Tryout Process will keep the same assigned jersey throughout the Recreation Evaluation process.

Tryout groups will be posted as soon as available.

Dear Sackville Minor Hockey Association Families,

We are excited to invite you to our second annual Welcome to Hockey event, happening this Sunday, September 22, 2024. This event is open to all returning U5 and U7 athletes, families, and community members who are interested in becoming part of our hockey family for the upcoming season.

Event Details:

• Date: Sunday, September 22, 2024
• Time: 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
• Location: Sackville Arena Mezzanine (91 First Lake Dr., Lower Sackville)

Who Should Attend:

• U5 and U7 families, as well as anyone interested in learning more about the sport and joining the league this season.

What to Bring:

• Your questions about the upcoming season, mini sticks for the kids, and the whole family!

What's Planned:

• Enjoy refreshments and a chance to meet other families, volunteers, and our executive team.
• Participate in a fun monster mini stick game.
• Take a tour of the arena, including a close-up look at the Zamboni.
• Get tips on equipment, how to dress for the game, taping sticks, and more!

We’re looking forward to a great evening and can’t wait to see you there!

As we gear up for tryouts starting this weekend, we just wanted to share a few reminders: 

• Players are to come down the pool side stairs and check in at ice level for tryouts being held at the Sackville Sports Stadium.
• Players will need to check in prior to every session at all rinks.
• Remember to bring your jersey to all sessions!
