Welcome Message from Rob Nurnber, VP Initiation (U6 & U7)

Hello U6 and U7 Families!

I’d like to start by introducing myself to you. My name is Rob Nurnber and I am the current VP of Initiation with Sackville Minor Hockey. I’ve been involved in hockey for over 45 years now and first started coaching in Sackville Minor in 2008.

The focus for our Initiation Program is to develop basic hockey skills in a fun and positive environment. Most important is the kids have fun and develop a love for the game of hockey. Our coaching staff for our Initiation Program have extensive experience and I am very much looking forward to working with our coaches and your child in their development on the ice, as an individual, and grow their love for the greatest game on ice.

This year will also include our Development Team joining our programs in Initiation.

IMPORTANT DATES!

Our official start date will be Saturday October 15th

Our schedule for our 4 groups within Initiation this year are as follows:

Our times we have been given for the season are as follows:

  • LTP (U6) – Thursday’s 5pm – 6pm at the Sackville Arena (Start date will be Oct 20th)
  • U7-1 – Saturday’s 7am-8am Sackville Arena and Sunday’s 11am-12pm East Coast Varsity

  • U7-3 – Saturday’s 8:30-9:30 Sackville Satdium and Sunday’s 8am-9am Sackville Arena

Clarification of the U7 hockey program:

Hockey placement for players is made by age and not current skill level at time of registration as outlined by Hockey Canada. The initiation program is now as of 2021 referred to the U7 program. The U7 program comprises of 4 groups. These 4 groups are as follows:

  • Learn To Play (LTP) for players who are 4 years of age at min and will still be 4 by December 31st
  • U7-1 for Players who are 5 years of age and will still be 5 years of age by December 31st
  • U7-3 for Players who are 6 years of age and will still be 6 years of age by December 31st
  • U7-2 for player who are 5 or 6 years of age and will still be no older than 6 by December 31st

For clarification U7-2 was created to accommodate the growing number of registered players in our association. Some smaller associations only have 3 groups, LTP, and than U7-1 and U7-3.

***Players will receive their jerseys and socks supplied by SMHA. Please note all jerseys must be returned in good condition at the end of the season this year.

Hockey Nova Scotia Update: Statement from Hockey NS Board of Directors

Hello Flyers Families & Fans,

We are sharing today's News Release from the Hockey Nova Scotia Board of Directors. Below you'll see an email circuated to all Nova Scotia Minor Hockey Associations, followed by the Media Release that is posted online.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Good evening everyone,

Earlier today the Hockey Nova Scotia board of directors held an emergency meeting to discuss the ongoing situation at Hockey Canada. The board has been following that situation closely over the last several months and has expressed concerns to Hockey Canada during that time.

Following today’s meeting, the following statement was released. Please see below.

We would like to thank those of you who have reached out with feedback in recent days during what continues to be a challenging period of time for the sport.

Please note today’s decision does not affect your insurance coverage or the ability for your teams to participate in Hockey Nova Scotia-sanctioned events. We will be following up in the coming days to provide more information on this ongoing situation.

Thank you to all of you for your hard work and dedication to the sport.

Yours in Hockey,

A Statement from Hockey Nova Scotia

Members of the Hockey Nova Scotia board of directors have been closely monitoring the actions of Hockey Canada in recent months and have expressed concerns to the national governing body during this period of time.

In their latest step, Hockey Nova Scotia’s board of directors met today for an emergency meeting.

Following that meeting, the board issued the following statement:

Hockey Nova Scotia has lost confidence in Hockey Canada’s senior leadership.

Hockey families and non-hockey families alike agree: Change is needed at the highest levels of the game.

Therefore, Hockey Nova Scotia is formally suspending the transfer of participant assessment fees to Hockey Canada for the 2022-23 season.

Until our values at Hockey Nova Scotia are reflected by Hockey Canada’s senior leadership, we simply cannot support hockey’s national governing body.

Hockey Nova Scotia remains committed to working with our dedicated network of volunteers across the province to offer the best programs possible for our membership.
