2025/2026 Season Volunteers Needed!

First, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to those who have already stepped forward to volunteer their time. Your support is what makes our association strong and helps create the best possible experience for our players and families.

We are still looking for additional volunteers for the 2025–2026 season in the following areas:

Pre-Season On-Ice Helpers

We are seeking coaches willing to assist during pre-season camps.

Pre-Season Dressing Room Volunteers

To comply with Hockey Nova Scotia’s Rule of Two, we require volunteers to monitor dressing rooms during all sessions. If you are already helping as a coach during our pre-season sessions and are willing to volunteer, please let us know!

  • Ideally suited for former managers or coaches who already have certifications in place.

  • To volunteer, email Angela Pennell – Communications@FlyersHockey.ca
Please include your name, division, and player’s name so we can match volunteers with their player’s group.

Division Coordinators – Expressions of Interest

We are also seeking Division Coordinators for the 2025–2026 season. Coordinators are a vital link between the Executive, Coaching/Bench staff, and SMHA families, helping ensure a positive hockey experience for all.

To express interest, email Natalie Lafleche – secretary@flyershockey.ca
Please include:

  • Confirmation you meet requirements

  • Division(s) you’re interested in

  • A brief note on why you’d be a good fit

If you have already submitted your name, we hope to have divisions assigned shortly!

Thank you again to all of our current and future volunteers — your time and dedication are what keep Sackville Minor Hockey thriving!

Registration Update: Government-Issued Identification Required

Good Evenining,

Registration is now well underway. Thank you to the ~25% of our membership who are already registered for the season!

Our lovely Registrar Heather Doucet (Registration@FlyersHockey.ca) has requested that some information be shared about Proof of Residency within the Hockey Canada Registry (HCR).

As per Hockey Nova Scotia Regulations, Regulation Four: Residency, Section 4.11 (Page 24, screenshot highlighted below), guardians must provide Government-Issued Documentation to establish the player's "habitual residence", which is defined as where the player resides at least 4 of 7 days per week. (Note: This is the parent/gurdian's ID to show the address of where the player lives at least 4/7 days per week.)

The regulation goes on to clarify specifically that HNS does not accept documentation from Schools, Utility Companies, or Telecommunication Companies. (At one time, those items were accepted as proof, but the Regulations have changed.)

Please keep this Regulation in mind as you register your player(s) this season.

Parents and Guardians can Log On to HCR and upload a picture of their Government-Issued Documentation showing their SMHA-area address to their player's profile at any time. Please consider checking your palyer's HCR Account proactively for this information. This will reduce the need for Heather - our volunteer Registrar - to follow up with families individually.

In order for SMHA to remain compliant, families with documentation in HCR that does not meet the criteria above will be contacted and asked to provide compliant Government-Issued Documentation.

Thank you.

Please contact Heather (Registration@FlyersHockey.ca) for more information.
